Active Motif's 5-Azacytidine is a specific and potent inhibitor of DNA methyltransferase, DNMT1. It acts as a suicide substrate for methyltransferases after incorporation into DNA, and induces apoptosis in HCT-116 colon cancer cells that is mediated by p53 and its downstream effectors p21 (WAF1) and GADD45. 5-Azacytidine increases stem cell reprogramming efficiency, induces cardiac differentiation of human umbilical cord-derived MSCs, and reverses drug resistance in bladder cancer cells. It is an antileukemic agent that is cell permeable.
