JEG-3 nuclear extract

Active Motif's JEG-3 nuclear extract was prepared from cell cultures of the JEG-3 human placental choriocarcinoma cell line. These cells are epithelial in morphology and are derived from propagated extravillous trophoblast (EVT) cells of the placenta. EVT cells are a subpopulation of specialized and highly invasive cells. In response to a TGF-b signal secreted from the uterus, these cells are prompted to grow out from the placenta and invade the decidual lining of the uterus. Once they penetrate the decidua, they serve to both anchor the placenta to the uterus and establish an adequate blood supply exchange from the mother to the developing fetus. In research, JEG-3 cells commonly serve as trophoblastic model systems to study mechanisms regulating mammalian reproduction and fetal development. In addition, due to their invasive properties, these cells are also useful in dissecting the underlying processes governing proliferation, migration and invasiveness related to malignant cell behavior.
