DU 145 nuclear extract
Active Motif's DU 145 nuclear extract was prepared from cell cultures of the human prostate carcinoma DU 145 cell line. The DU 145 cell line was originally derived from a brain metastasis of a male patient with prostate carcinoma and lymphocytic leukemia. In culture, these cells form epithelial-like monolayers that contain microvilli, tonofilaments and desmosomes. The DU 145 cell line, along with the PC3 cell line, are considered to be the classic prostate cancer cell lines and are most commonly used as in vitro models for prostate cancer growth and behavior. Prostate cancer is the second most common neoplasia in men. These cells exhibit moderate metastatic potential and have been demonstrated to induce adenocarcinoma in nude mice. DU 145 cells are not hormone sensitive, but do express androgen and NFkB-activating receptors, and are weakly positive for acid phosphatase.
