Active Motif's HPA (Hexyl-4-pentynoic acid) is a valproic acid analog. It is a histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor (IC50 = 13 M) that is more potent and robust than valproic acid at inducing histone hyperacetylation (600% at 50 M), HSP70 induction and protection against glutamate excitotoxicity in cultured neurons. It is cell permeable.
