Recombinant METTL21D (VCPKMT) protein

METTL21D (Methyltransferase-Like Protein 21D), also known as VCPKMT (Valosin Containing Protein Lysine Methyltransferase), is a member of the Family 16 group of methyltransferases. It is responsible for the trimethylation of VCP (also called p97) on Lys 315. VCP is a highly conserved member of the AAA+-ATPases (ATPases associated with various activities) family, involved in several cellular pathways including protein degradation, endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation, cell cycle regulation, membrane fusion and DNA damage response. Recently, it has been shown that VCPKMT is involved in cancer metastasis formation, but the physiological role of K315me3 in VCP has not been established and also the effect of K315me3 on the ATPase activity of VCP is not yet clear.
